What is a bench harness for?
It lets you program an ECU out of the car. The harness supplies power, ignition and ground to the ECU on your bench and carries its CAN bus to your scantool.
When do I need to program on the bench?
Vehicles fitted with a secure gateway module (SGM) need the gateway bypassed, or the ECU put on the bench, before you can talk to it. The bench is also handy for preparing a replacement ECU before it goes in the car.
Which ECUs can I wire up?
Our bench wiring diagrams cover NGC4, NGC4A, GPEC, GPEC2, GPEC2A, GPEC3, GPEC4 and GPEC4LM.
Is a power supply included?
Yes. The kit includes one of our recommended power supplies, with adjustable voltage for stable, constant power to the ECU.
Do I need a scantool as well?
Yes. The harness powers the ECU and carries CAN; a scantool such as the OBDX Pro FT does the talking. ECU Hero only works with the OBDX Pro FT.
